2004 Vietnam Aid Expedition - Day 6

Subject: Day 6

Hi everyone!  It's Saturday night and we're in Nha Trang.  It was a very long day on the bus.  The ride here was amazing.  The country side is so beautiful and green.  There are houses/shacks along side of the road almost every inch of the way.  It's sad to see how most of these people live.  We had several stops along the way for breakfast and lunch.  I'm just about done with pho (pronounced fah; it's Vietnamese soup).  Breakfast, lunch and dinner.  It's good but I'm a girl with more substantial dietary requirements!

Also had my first experience with a squat toilet.  I know, too much information for some of you, but I happen to be obsessed about them.  They seemed to get worse the farther we were from the city.  The first one was a built up little toilet - sort of.  No flushing, when you're done you go outside and get a pail of water and flush it that way.  The next two stops were basically a tile floor with a little hole in the corner to wash away your business.  Now that I've done it, it's not that big of a deal.  Some other gals refused to go at the first stop and later found out that it was nicer than the rest.

After dinner tonight, we practiced our dance we'll be doing for the kids tomorrow night.  They'll get a kick out of our silliness.

I'm very tired so will hit the shower - OH!  get this.  The bathroom at this hotel is a sink, toilet and a shower head and drain.  All in the same space.  Crazy!

It's great to hear from you all.  It makes me less homesick.
